This fall 2008 presentation to the Evaluation of Teaching Committee and the Faculty Senate’s Academic Policy Committee summarizes what we have learned to date about:
- How paper and online response rates and ratings compare
- Factors that contribute to high and low response rates
- How high a response rate is necessary for meaningful results
These summary statistics provide an overview of response rates by course type, instructor type, and student type. They also include mean ratings by student and average course grade.
The Evaluation of Teaching Committee, which governs ClassEval, maintains a ClassEval FAQ about common concerns and myths about online evaluations. It also contains suggestions on improving response rates for courses.
