Trend reports line up multiple years together in simple tables. Individual year reports include breakouts with details for occupational activity, gender and race/ethnicity counts, organization, faculty rank, and other useful taxonomies.
Over the last 10 years, at the request of UNC-GA and the IPEDS system, the definitions of administrator and faculty have changed. As a result, the number of administrators decreased over the years 2007 to 2009. In 2012 the definition of all employees changed from the Occupational Activity Code (OA) taxonomy to the Standard Occupation Code (SOC) taxonomy. This means in the future the counts for groups, and the groups listed, will be different.
In 2008 and 2009 UNC-GA introduced JCAT taxonomy. The new definitions changed quite a few assignments (see the Summary 8-Year Table). Most affected was the count of administrators and professional staff, followed by technical and clerical staff. The definition of faculty did not change. The 2009 to 2011 definitions are stable.
In 2011, at the request of UNC-GA, Cooperative Extension Service field faculty and employees were added to the on-campus counts. These are listed in a separate row or column on the 2011 tables.
In 2012 the IPEDS collection of personnel data mandated the use of Standard Occupation Codes (SOC) instead of the OA code. We will revise tables to use the SOC when time permits.
